At Packstyle, we love staying in touch with our clients and listening to their feedback about our packaging. Over time, we’ve shared stories from various companies that have chosen our pouches: businesses in the coffee, spice, and legal cannabis industries, as well as those offering niche products like black garlic, or key players in the retail market with soups and ready meals. You can discover all these case studies on our blog.
Today, we’re taking you into the world of cosmetics, with the experience of Ophelier. This project was born from the vision of Dr. Ofelia Carlotti, who earned her degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Pisa, followed by a Level II Master’s in Cosmetological Sciences from the University of Pavia. Her early career, particularly in the R&D department of a major Italian cosmetics company, gave her firsthand experience in developing new products for leading brands in the sector.
After years of professional experience, Dr. Carlotti felt a strong desire to innovate and explore a lesser-known area of cosmetics: personalized beauty. She went on to found her own company, Cosmekit S.r.l., and launched her brand, Ophelier Custom Beauty—a DIY-inspired line of personalized make-care cosmetic products.
The idea for Ophelier first took shape in 2020, in its early stages, when I participated in Start Impresa, a program promoted by Confindustria Abruzzo Medio Adriatico. My modular make-up project was selected among the top five finalists, earning me a six-month mentorship. The concept was met with great enthusiasm, and from there began a development journey that led to the official launch of the brand in 2024 and the debut of the e-commerce platform in 2025.
The core of the project is simple yet innovative: to give anyone the opportunity to create their own cosmetic products by following clear and safe guidelines—without needing experience in the sector or a fully equipped lab. Customers choose the benefit they’re looking for, such as hydration, soothing effect, or antioxidant action, along with their preferred colors. They then receive a box at home with a complete DIY kit: pre-measured ingredients, spatula, beaker, mold, and lipstick container.
The true innovation? All you need to make your lipstick is a microwave and a freezer. The process is quick, easy, and accessible to everyone. We started with lipstick, but we’re already working on expanding the line with new products like blush, bronzer, foundation, and more.
The Ophelier project soon crossed paths with Packstyle, discovering from the outset a strong alignment in values. Dr. Carlotti recalls starting with an online search to find the packaging supplier best suited to the brand’s needs. Packaging was expected to meet several essential requirements, the foremost being its ability to preserve the quality of cosmetic products—known for their delicate nature.
A protective barrier was crucial—something capable of preventing external agents, particularly oxygen, from entering and potentially compromising product stability by oxidizing the wax used in the lipstick-making process.
Ophelier’s initial idea was to use glass jars, but this solution was quickly dismissed for a number of reasons. The team sought a packaging format that would make the DIY process as simple and intuitive as possible for the end user. Twisting open and resealing a jar not only felt less immediate but also failed to ensure proper protection against contamination—especially in extreme conditions.
This led to a growing interest in flexible packaging: more practical, easier to handle, hygienic, and perfectly aligned with the kind of user experience Ophelier aimed to deliver. Dr. Carlotti compared samples from various suppliers and subjected the pouches—filled with specific quantities of cosmetic product—to rigorous stability, thermal shock, and resistance tests.
Packstyle’s pouches, already thoroughly tested during production and at other stages, stood out by passing all the tests with flying colors.
The pouch immediately struck us as the ideal solution: it ensures optimal product protection, and the material it’s made of effectively prevents oxygen from entering—thus avoiding the oxidation of the wax.
The process is both simple and hygienic: you just tear open the pouch—without direct contact with the contents—and pour it straight into the beaker.
Beyond technical performance, the visual impact was another strong point: the print quality is excellent, with crisp, well-defined colors that enhance the brand’s identity.
Ophelier is a project that shares many values with Packstyle—first and foremost, a strong focus on sustainability.
At the heart of Ophelier’s innovative concept lies modular make-up: each cosmetic is made using pre-measured and precisely calibrated doses, minimizing waste and ensuring every ingredient is fully used.
This approach is also reflected in the brand’s online shop: in addition to complete kits, customers can purchase individual components, avoiding the need to repurchase reusable items like the spatula, beaker, and mold.
Packstyle’s flexible packaging follows the same logic. Thanks to digital printing, even small quantities—starting from just 50 pouches—can be ordered, helping to reduce waste, unnecessary stock, and costs. Fast production and shipping times also allow for on-demand purchasing.
Sustainability is further supported by material choices: Packstyle is increasingly focused on offering recyclable and certified solutions to reduce environmental impact.
It’s a philosophy fully embraced by Ophelier as well, which uses natural or naturally derived ingredients and selects recyclable packaging for every component—from Packstyle’s wax pouches to boxes and even tissue paper.
Particular attention is given to the quality and functionality of the ingredients.
As a cosmetic scientist, I focus on formulations that combine aesthetics with skincare benefits, using soothing, hydrating, and antioxidant active ingredients.
Even though the process may appear playful, it’s backed by thorough research and strict quality control to ensure safety, effectiveness, and ease of use.
Moreover, starting from the ingredients themselves, our commitment is centered on sustainability: we use natural or naturally derived ingredients, recyclable packaging, and reusable tools.
The true innovation behind the Ophelier project lies in its personalization potential.
The kits available in the online shop allow users to safely create their own lip balm or lipstick, selecting ingredients and colors. The process is simple, quick, and accessible to everyone—no specific skills or professional equipment required.
Packstyle shares this same philosophy of customization, offering its clients the freedom to create tailor-made packaging. From the format and size to materials, graphics, texts, and even accessories—everything can be personalized with complete autonomy and flexibility.
Another key strength of Ophelier is the emotional dimension of the experience. In addition to offering a high-quality product—formulated with natural ingredients and packaged sustainably with reusable tools—Ophelier gives its customers the joy of safely crafting their own personalized cosmetics. A simple gesture that combines creativity and mindfulness, while encouraging sharing and connection with friends and family.
Just like Packstyle, creativity is a core value for Ophelier. The ability to create your own cosmetic through a modular kit is the true added value of our project: a customizable product that combines quality, autonomy, and engagement.
Similarly, Packstyle allows customers to design their own tailor-made packaging, meeting both aesthetic and functional needs—without ever compromising on the quality and professionalism that define its products.
At Ophelier, we recognized not only an innovative project, but a company with great potential and a vision that deeply reflects our own values.
We’re proud to collaborate with businesses that, like us, place people, the environment, and sustainability at the core of their mission.
